With school back in full swing, now is a good time to start thinking about a family vacation for everyone to look forward to. While a trip to an exotic beach or foreign country may not be plausible for families with young children, there are plenty of cities in the U.S. that kids (and parents) will love visiting. Check out these four cities around the country perfect for creating some family vacation memories:
San Diego, California
While the San Diego Zoo is a must-visit for any family vacation to the city, San Diego offers many other attractions for young children. Downtown, The New Children’s Museum lets kids climb on sculptures, take classes and express their creativity outside of the school classroom. Take older children to ride some roller coasters at Belmont Park, a beachfront amusement park. And don’t forget to spend at least one afternoon relaxing on the beach in the beautiful San Diego weather.
Washington, D.C.
The capital city of the United States is far more exciting than young children may initially think. Washington, D.C. has the expected plethora of museums ranging from the Museum of Natural National History to the Museum of Air and Space. After a trip to visit dinosaur fossils and rocket ships, you and your family can head to the National Mall to ride the famous carousel. Tour the White House and show your kids where the president spends his days or spend an afternoon at the free zoo. This city offers plenty of history communicated in ways that will keep the entire family entertained.
St. Louis, Missouri
While it may not be the first place that comes to mind for a family vacation, there’s plenty of fun to be had in the Gateway to the West city. The entire family can spend an entire afternoon crawling and sliding around the City Museum in downtown St. Louis. Nearby, Forest Park holds one of the best free zoos in the nation as well as the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Missouri History Museum. The Saint Louis Science Center also offers science demonstrations, hands-on adventures and experiments and much more. Lastly, no trip to St. Louis would be complete without a ride to the top of the famous Arch.
Orlando, Florida
It’s every kid’s dream to visit Disney World, but there are many other activities for the entire family to enjoy in Orlando. Curious children (and parents) may enjoy a trip to Ripley’s Believe it or Not Orlando Odditorium. For a little bit of educational fun, head over to the Orlando Science Center or learn about marine life at SeaWorld. You can even take more adventurous family members to try indoor skydiving at IFLY Orlando Indoor Skydiving. Be sure to take a ride on the Orlando Eye before you and your family head back home for some amazing views of the city!
