When traveling by air, it’s always a good idea to bring a carry on, regardless of whether or not you’re checking a bag. Most airlines allow you to bring 2 carry on bags—a larger bag and a small personal item, like a backpack or a purse—included in the cost of your ticket (although this is not true of every airline, be sure to check the fine print on your ticket).

Here are basics you should always consider packing in your carry on:

  • Boarding Pass
  • ID
  • Copy of your flight itinerary
  • Physical print out of your transportation arrangements and hotel booking
  • If traveling internationally, also consider printing out your Visa confirmation
  • Jewelry
  • Wallet & Cash
  • Camera & equipment
  • Keys

  • Deodorant
  • Chapstick
  • Tooth brush & mini toothpaste
  • Face wipes

  • Empty water bottle
  • Healthy snacks

  • Laptop & charger
  • Phone charger
  • Book
  • Music player
  • Headphones

  • 1-2 changes of clothing
  • 1 or 2 articles of clothing that you couldn’t do without
  • Extra underwear

  • Sleep mask
  • Pillow
  • Ibuprofen
  • Sleep Aid (for a longer flight)
